I don’t get it…. a person can either cooperate and get in the car nice and easy or they can make the officer’s job a total pain in the ass and risk getting injured…. seems like a no brainer to me… unless of course you actually do not have a brain…

Looks to me like she jumped back. Her feet were on the floor board of the car. It was obvious that this woman was drunk and disorderly. Now EMS will pick her up, they will take her to and ER and somebody who is really sick will have to wait because this dumb woman couldn’t stay at home.

Key word: “Resisting”. Dont resist the police, and you wont have problems.

Um, those SFPD offciers were FAR from violent with that street trash. As an SF resident, I am tired of the mentally ill street people ruining this city, using city services (the police, in this case) without contributing to the community. This mentally ill woman obviously did something wrong, or the police wouldn’t have been called in the first place (and was loud enough to rouse the video taker, I notice). Resisting arrest and shouting at the police officers on top of that?–Unacceptable.

@fortycalsig
When the cops say you’re under arrested you shouldn’t be allowed to say no, nor resist because that defeats the purpose. Plus it’s an additional crime to resist arrest. And you know damn well they didn’t just leave the baby by itself.

@bryanmonkeyface
Yeah say that to them when they catch the guy who kills someone you know, or robs your house, etc.

@AmericanNohbuddy I know no such thing. Anyway, resistance is generally against the “rules,” depending on the situation, and that isn’t likely to change. I was mainly pointing out that it is human nature, and often ethical and correct, to resist being taken prisoner.

@fortycalsig
No, not depending on the situation. When a cop says you’re under arrest you let them put the damn handcuffs on you. Human nature against non law enforcement, but guess what? These guys are cops.

@AmericanNohbuddy Yes, depending on the situation, and the arresting officer must explain the pertinent details to the target (unless target pre-emptively physically attacked the officer). Then, it is reasonable for the target to appraise the officer’s purported justification. Police, honorable tho many of them are, do not have arbitrary authority to randomly arrest anyone they want. Police are just people like us, w/ a certain social standing when on duty.

@fortycalsig
“I see a gun in your car”
“No I don’t have a gun”
How does that work? The fact is there is something called probable cause. Cops say you’re under arrest you should obey. There is no reason to resist arrest from the police in this country.

30. Jul, 2010
@AmericanNohbuddy I’m not arguing that there’s no such thing as probable cause, although reasonable people disagree as to what constitutes it. But consider that if a police officer attempts to physically interfere with someone without probable cause, then that someone clearly has a retaliatory option. At least they do in an open society, as ours is alleged to still be, as opposed to a full-on police state.

@fortycalsig
And it has happened and at times the cop gets in trouble. At the end of the day if they say you’re under arrest you have no reason to resist.

@AmericanNohbuddy I think our only disagreement is really whether a resistor might under some extreme circumstances conceivably be found not-guilty of “resisting.” I find it impossible to allow that there is no such circumstance so when you say categorically “no reason,” I think possibly you’re putting yourself in a position of insensitivity and inflexibility when it comes to police abusing people, which they manifestly do all the time. Which abuse will increase as the number of bad laws rises.

Guess what the law says right now? So follow it. You want to go to serve more time in jail? Go ahead. And don’t ask for police help when someone you know gets hurt, or you get robbed, or worse.

@AmericanNohbuddy Don’t cop an attitude because you can’t argue my points. I’m not a criminal; I have great respect for the work that police officers do esp. in their capacity of investigating crime, but I also have great respect for people individually and their right not to be abused by criminals, the police or potentially corrupt police. In other words, I support the right of self-defence. If you are a police officer, then you’re probably the kind of power-whore cop I’m concerned about.

@fortycalsig
No I’m not a cop but I know some that are not like that. Not every cop is a “power whore”. My point is you should resist arrest at any time, it just makes it worse.

who ever taped this is lucky the cops didn’t see them. More jurisdictions are making it illegal to video cops.
