BVH Animation Technology for Overgrowth – Wolfire Games
Posted on 25. Jul, 2010 by megab in Gaming
blog.wolfire.com BVH animation files can now be loaded into the engine. Additionally, David has created an animation algorithm can translate the orginal humanoid BVH data to suit the specific size and dimensions of the current humanoid character you have rigged. Last but not least, once you have a BVH animation loaded, you can save it out as an ANM file which can then be utilized by the scripting layer. The big batch of motion captured BVH animation files I used in this video can be downloaded here: sites.google.com The music in this video was composed by Mikko Tarmia: www.mikkotarmia.com and featured live flute performances from Anton Riehl: antonriehl.com

Hoooooly fuck that’s intuitive.
Seriously though – there are 3D engines who should take a leaf from your book and implement the type of rigging system you have. I may not be a pro, but having something that easy is a step ahead of a fair amount of programs that i have seen.

@Supermortalhuman: Yes, yes, and Yes! all are planned or implemented. Preorder and grab the alphas, and you can influence development!

Can I ask a favor? Please make it so that different species fight differently. A wolf should not use the same exact moves as a rabbit.
Also, this is awesome.

@Anddos25: With the amount of visible and measurable progress being made? Are you insane? The only question, short of some unlikely catastrophic event (say, loss of all their data so far), is _when_.

If the skeleton rigging / animations go through the same “David level of care” then this will bring the house down !!!!
